Trevecca Nazarene University Cancels Anti-Muslim Event

Trevecca Nazarene University Cancels Anti-Muslim Event: Let's Show Our Gratitude!

Submitted by the American Muslim Advisory Council

Last week, AMAC became aware of a ‘homeland security summit’ hosted by Mae Beavers at Trevecca Nazarene University. Although we are concerned about the safety and security of our communities,  the invited speakers have been discredited as security experts and are known Islamophobes  who seek to marginalize the American Muslim community through misinformation and fear-mongering. The three speakers have been flagged by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as anti-Muslim activists.  John Guandolo has been barred from conducting police training workshops by various law enforcement agencies due to his outrageous conspiracy theories and lack of credibility. Bill Warner’s organization, the Center for Study of Political Islam, has been labeled a hate group by SPLC and Cathy Hinners runs a anti-Muslim blog here in Middle Tennessee.

AMAC worked with our allies in the community including Nashville Unites and the Family of Abraham which sent out alerts to their members who in turn contacted Trevecca. We appreciate their support and commitment against hate.

AMAC applauds Trevecca for cancelling the event once they knew the true nature of the summit.  We are grateful for Trevecca’s courageous stand against those who seek to divide our community and their “commitment to community building, education, and support of a diverse enrollment.”

Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, said, “He has not thanked God who has not thanked the people.”  Please join us in thanking Trevecca’s President Dr. Boone by contacting him here.

Let us all continue to be vigilant against the forces of hate towards any of our community members!

Here is the article in The Tennessean about the event and Trevecca's official response.
